Imperial War Museum Duxford houses the largest collection of historical aircraft in the UK, so for any aviation enthusiast it’s a must-see! Built on the historical site of Duxford Aerodrome, a working RAF base throughout WWI and WWII, there is no better place to learn about the proud history of British aviation – we can’t lay claim to the Wright Brothers, but we Brits have made some pretty stellar contributions to flying as we know it today. The extensive museum has a fantastic range of displays on everything from the truth about the famous 1914 Christmas Truce during the Great War, through the roles of the women factory workers of World War II, to amazing machines involved in modern-day warfare.
Duxford is still a working civil airfield, and is home to frequent air shows showing off the skills of its resident pilots, as well as visiting aerial display teams in a mind-boggling array of aircraft. With nearly 200 aircraft on display in and around the museum, a trip to IWM Duxford can easily take a full day, and there is always something new to see, so repeat visits are never dull! The museum now plays host to a range of flying lessons in both vintage and modern aircraft… so we wouldn’t be doing our job if we didn’t share these fantastic offers with you:
